Would return there
Very good hotel for a short stay. I liked this lovely simple hotel and stayed 2 days there. It is a little away from the city centre but there is tram near the hotel so I could easily went to the centre paying about 2.20. Room amenities are cool: satellite TV, internet access, desk, private bathroom, minibar ... I also found wake up calls very useful because it is a big problem to wake up for me in the mornings!! A wide selection is in the breakfast but I just ate cereals. Hotel personel is happy to help you. I would return! |

"Wonderful Budget Hotel"
I stayed 2 nights in the Prodomo Messehotel in May with my girlfriend and we both thought it was a good choice and will stay there again. First the pros: The hotel is very clean and modern, all the fixtures worked. The bathroom was very acceptable with a nice shower that even has a temperature setting so you can adjust the hot water to exactly how you want it. The mattress was new and perfect to sleep on, the linens were new and the room smelled fresh. The front desk staff spoke english and were very friendly and helpful.
The hotel is located close to the convention center (Messe), however the neighborhood it is in is not a tourist area and the closest area with stores/restaraunts/ubahn station is Weiner Platz about a 15 - 20 minute walk away. From Weiner Platz you can easily take a Ubahn to anywhere in the city.
Now the cons: the hallways are quite narrow with motion sensing lights, and sometimes the motion sensors aren't very sensitive. It is a bit of a walk to the nearest station and the hotel is on the opposite side of the river from where the tourist parts are.
In conclusion, if you are comfortable with walking (or have the cash for a taxi each time) and you are looking for a clean, safe, comfortable room then look no further than the Prodomo.
Some side notes: a one way taxi ride from the main train station in the tourist area to the hotel was 10 euros, a taxi ride from the hotel to CGN airport was 25 euros. When you are in Koeln be sure to visit Eberplatz, I enjoyed this area the most as it was full of great restaurants and shops and less of a tourist trap.

"Two thumbs up for this 2-star hotel"
The Prodomo in Cologne is a fantastic hotel option for the budget traveller. The friendly English speaking staff were very helpful during my recent weekend visit for the World Cup and the hotel was very clean and comfortable.
The hotel is a short walk from the train station which takes you directly into the centre of Cologne for 2.20 Euro. There are a couple of small convenience stores nearby, but not much else so taking a map of the city is a must!
Two nights accommodation for £40 also included a buffet breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausages, fruit, pastries and cereal. There is also a limited evening menu of hot snacks, including pizzas for 6 euro, plus there are drinks available at the bar/reception area.
The rooms are basic but comfortable and I rate the pillows very highly! My only comment on the bedding would be that there was no top sheet, only a light duvet which was a bit warm for the Summer nights, but the hotel is very quiet being in a residential area so I had a great sleep. The cleaning staff are very efficient so if you plan on sleeping past 10am make sure you put up your "do not disturb" sign the previous night!
Overall a great hotel which I would definately stay at again if I make the trek back to Cologne. Two thumbs up!
