"good location"
11 december 06
3 night stay for xmas markets Excellent location excellent hotel rooms 1st class only 1 complaint the rooms are a litle small but thats no problem, but there was nowhere to put a suitcase and leave open .Also breakfast a bit steep at 22 euros
Nothing to do with the Hotel but if you are going for the xmas markets DON'T go over the weekend you cannot move and I mean that you just move with the crowd.
Shopping is great especially womens shoes. Be warned a lot of shops don't take credit cards.

"Loved the Sofitel!"
We (3 girls on a girlie weekend) stayed here for just one night when we went to Cologne for a weekend of Christmas Markets and Mulled Wine! The hotel is in an excellent location - within walking distance of all the main markets and the Lindt Chocolate Museum - yum!
The rooms were fine in terms of size and also the standard and quality of furnishings and fittings. The bathrooms were very contemporary, clean and above all practical! The rooms were also clean with in-room safes, hairdryers, wide range of freebie toiletries which we always find useful.
The staff were on the whole extremely friendly and very helpful - we asked for 2 rooms with a connecting door and it was all arranged within minutes! The doorman and concierge were very helpful - if it wasn't for them we may not have known there was a chocolate museum in Cologne!
We didn't eat breakfast in the hotel, choosing instead to go and eat in a local cafe, which was fantastic - fresh waffles with fruit and yogurt for 4 Euros - fab!
Overall this hotel is in an excellent location, is clean, fresh and has a real contemporary feel about it and the staff were on the whole brill - we will definitely be staying here next year for the markets, as they were also amazing. We had a fantastic time.

"Comfort, efficiency, & good location"
Fortunately, I did not let the random negative review of Dorint Sofital Am Dom posted on Trip Advisor, deter me from making a weekend booking. My friend and I requested a double room each, via Expedia, at a very good rate of £133 p.p. for two nights.
Our rooms were NOT small; the bathrooms were attractive, modern, and well equipped. The room was very clean, the bed very comfortable with good quality bed linen. The staff polite, helpful and friendly. Breakfast for 22 euros was very good value with many options, catering for an international clientele. The modern seating areas in the large lobby are sleek & comfortable. The small square in front of the hotel is currently undergoing construction work, but the location and comfort of the hotel more than make up for it.

"Modern Luxury: a true Sofitel"
The Sofitel must have been completely refurbished in 2003 - it is a truly beautiful place. The Lobby is large and cozy at the same time, and exudes an air of quiet luxury. Staff is well-trained and helpful, with a smile. The Design is terrific: Contemporary and warm at the same time. The rooms are great, modern, stylish and well-appointed.
Roadwarriors may wish for more deskspace. The beds are high, offer great linens and a firm, yet comfy mattress. The bathrooms are beautiful, clean and bright - great water-pressure for a nice shower and the tub is large enough to have a relaxing soak in it. If you want to relax even more, check out the Wellness-Area in the basement: hot sauna, steam room, a quiet area with bed-like deck-chairs... It is very nicely done and we were all by ourselves the entire time. As often in Germany, there is no separation between the sexes. The gym is equipped with the basics, but everything is new and you can at least give yourself a halfway decent cardio workout.Restaurant is hotel-style and international, service is un-rushed.I stayed there shortly after the renovations, and not everything had 'clicked' yet - however, if you get one of their special weekend rates, this place is highly recommended, especially if you have the time to use everything the hotel offers. The location is very much in the center of everything - so just walk out of the hotel and start discovering Cologne.

"Very comfortable"
Despite misgivings on arrival (huge building site in front of the entrance, as most of Cologne's roads seems to be under re-construction), this was a classy and comfortable hotel. Booked a Superior twin, and was given a nice slot looking out on the floodlit Dom. Rooms are not huge at all, but the beds are extremely comfortable. Bathrooms are well equipped and with a large walk -in shower. Public areas are beautifully furnished, quiet and relaxing. Even has a Library for clients to chill in!. Ate in the Tapas bar, more of a restaurant offshoot really, and cannot fault the service or food. Staff generally were great, friendly and efficient. Highly recommended at a book ahead price of just Euro 120.

"Pampered"
We stayed here for two nights April. It's a great location - behind the Dom so you're right there, but not so close that you'll be disturbed by the bells. It's a little on the corporate side, and the room we had was a tiny bit narrow, but the bathrooms are luxurious, and the towels and products were particularly sumptuous. The beds and bed linen are pretty special too - goose down and starchy cotton. Very comfortable beds and nice designer touches in the room.
The concierges and staff were adept, helpful and unobtrusive. The breakfast (which we had brought up to us) was fantastic. We ate in the restaurant both nights. It was practically empty, which was strange because the food was great and excellent value. Glasses of prosecco were, as I recall, only a fiver. The kitchen sent out little treats to us too. So we were left with the feeling when we checked out that we'd been very well looked after indeed |

"Fantastic location, great bed and super shower"
Stayed here for just one night to visit the Christmas market. Fantastic location (though difficult to find with roadworks and building works everywhere in the city centre). Room looked straight to the cathedral - what view! Three markets within a couple of minutes walk. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room wasn't the largest I've stayed in but perfectly adequate. The bed was sooooo comfortable - heaven. And the shower - a big walk in job - was super. had a shower to freshen up, one to warm up, another before bed, one to wake up and one to freshen up before the journey... any excuse really.
Great value too.
